Government announces support scheme for biomass energy – SSRH

action photo announcement of SSRH

The Government has announced the opening of a new support scheme which will provide operational support for biomass boilers and anaerobic digestion heating systems.

Part of the Support Scheme for Renewable Heat (SSRH), the scheme is designed to replace fossil fuel heating systems by heat pumps and by heat from biomass or anaerobic digestion. The SSRH will support commercial, industrial, agricultural and other non-domestic heat users and tariffs have been calculated to compensate the difference between renewable technologies and the use of fossil fuels. The Government aims to reduce carbon emissions by 11Mt over the lifetime of the scheme.

Welcoming the announcement, Irish BioEnergy Association (IrBEA) said the scheme will kick start the industry in Ireland and mobilise the renewable heat sector in Ireland.
