This was our 3rd year exhibiting at the annual IWEA conference. It’s always a great event for getting so many renewable stakeholders in one place and it was great chatting to them about PPA’s and energy related matters in Cork recently.
I-SEM (Integrated Single Electricity Market) was the main topic of discussion at our exhibition stand. We know from the Department of Communications, Climate Action & Environment (DCCAE) paper, titled “Transitioning to I-SEM” (Options Paper) that the intention is that Government supported projects will be subject to balance responsibility and its associated costs. It is therefore crucial that your PPA off-taker can effectively manage renewables in I-SEM.
At Naturgy, we have been working meticulously on and investing in our I-SEM readiness to provide value to our clients and effectively manage these costs. Utilising the extensive experience of our team in energy markets, we are developing robust forecasting and system models with input from our parent company, Gas Natural Fenosa (GNF), the global utility who are active in several European power markets. Combined, we believe this puts us in a unique position to effectively manage renewables in I-SEM.
Now that the market registration and certification process is almost complete, we are looking forward to the market trials, which are scheduled to start in December – no rest for the wicked!
