Enabling Irish Businesses to Actively Manage their Electricity and Gas Demand
7th October 2014: Irish gas and electricity supplier Naturgy has completed the rollout of its MyVayu energy management portal as part of a multi-million euro technology investment to cater for its growing Irish customer base and expansion into the UK energy market. The online platform provides businesses with a suite of analytical tools to manage their energy consumption more efficiently and to optimise their electricity and gas procurement decisions.
In business since 2003 when market deregulation was introduced, Naturgy is a leading independently owned energy supplier. Since its beginnings as a gas supplier to business customers, the company has steadily grown and now supplies 22% of Ireland’s largest natural gas business users. In 2007, Naturgy launched its electricity supply business and has seen its market share double each year since then.
Backed up by market intelligence from Vayu’s team of energy analysts, the MyVayu platform acts as a single resource to enable business managers take more active control of their energy costs. The web-based system provides finance and procurement managers with interactive tools to model changes in energy demand over different timeframes; review detailed reports on energy performance; and assess potential savings in real-time using scenario-based analysis.
Wayne Kelly, Head of IT & Systems says: “Energy is one of the largest cost components for Irish businesses and yet many managers struggle to make the right procurement decisions for their organisation. This is where our new portal excels, by providing a user-friendly tool to help decision makers manage their energy needs more effectively.”
“We believe technology has an enormously important role to play as a disruptive force in the Irish energy sector by putting businesses in the driving seat and allowing them to take full control of their energy decisions. This is the future of energy procurement and an area that sets Naturgy apart from traditional utilities that provide static data in the form of online invoices and usage data.”
Gillian Lawler, Head of Customer Services at Naturgy says: “One of the key things that differentiate us from traditional utilities is how we engage with customers and the types of energy insights and solutions we strive to provide them. As an integral part of their energy management structure, we educate businesses on how the energy market works and how to buy energy more astutely. This can result in significant benefits for their cash flow and how they manage their business – whether they are a single or multi-site business, MyVayu is a great tool to support this decision making process.”
